WBB Tryout Guidelines
Windjammer Basketball (WBB) program is a competitive basketball experience with the mission to challenge players abilities and enhance the competitive experience for a group of selected players.
WBB will conduct tryouts for grade levels, 3rd through 8th, with the intent of evaluating the skill sets of each player that chooses to tryout for their respective teams. It is the coach’s discretion as to who they will choose for their team and fully dependent on the skill sets each coach believes they would like to obtain for the upcoming season.
The tryouts will consist of the following:
1.One coach will run the skills and drills
2.All players must fill out a consent form and waiver to participate
3.Each coach for each designated team will evaluate each player
4.It is the coach's discretion as to how many players are chosen for their team, but teams will be no smaller than 7 players and no larger than 12 players
5.There will be cuts on each team to meet the size limits set by WBB.
6.WBB has voted and approved teams at various grade levels which correspond with projected team size and competitive ability
7.WBB may approve additional teams, at a later date, if the need exists
If your child is not chosen to participate in the Five Town league, Windjammer Basketball highly encourages each player to continue to work on the skills recommended by the coach through the YMCA league (for grades 3-6) and the Busline League for the Middle school ages.
At any point during the YMCA season or Busline season, it is the WBB coach’s discretion to add a player to their roster later if the coach feels that a player has significantly improved since the tryouts. This is not a guarantee, but each WBB coach reserves the right to add those players if they so choose. In circumstances where the child has moved to the area in the middle of the season and was not present to register for tryouts and the coach has not met his/her size of 12 players, the coach may ask permission of the board to add this player to their roster.
In addition, if a coach has less than 10 players who registered for tryouts and showed up at tryouts and throughout YMCA or Busline league chooses to add an additional player to the team, they may ask the board to add this child to their roster.
